In 1964, John J. Carneval
opened Car-Paul Safe & Lock Co. in partnership with Paul
Raupers, hence the name Car-Paul. Mr.
Raupers sold his interest to Mr. Carneval shortly afterwards.
Mr. Carneval has operated Car-Paul as a sole proprietor for almost
40 years.
In 1976, Mr. Carneval expanded his business with the creation of
Great Lakes Supply Co. Great
Lakes was developed to provide locks to other locksmiths on a wholesale
basis. Great Lakes Supply Co.
was later renamed Great Lakes Lock Distributors in order to eliminate
confusion with another company named Great Lakes Supply Co. that was in a
different business category. Car-Paul and Great Lakes were merged in 1997 to form
Interstate Security, Inc.
Our company moved to its present location in 1993.
This 2,500 square foot facility houses a service counter, safe
showroom, work area, two bay garage and machine shop.
The garage also has plenty of space for our comprehensive lock
hardware and keyblank inventory. In
addition, we also warehouse over 25 safes of various sizes and weights.
This is a family business in every sense.
In addition to Mr. Carneval, our staff includes his three sons,
John Jr., Paul and Joe. John
Jr., General Manager, has been with the company since graduating from Penn State University
in 1979. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.
Paul, Key Records Manager, is in charge of all internal operations. Joe,
the Service Manager, served in the U.S. Navy, has been with the company since his 1988
discharge. Together the
Carneval Clan has over 70 years experience.
